This guide is to explain our new IP addressing options available to customers connected on any of our NBN TC-4 services. As we update our infrastructure, we are implementing Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT) and offering both dynamic and static IP options. While we will continue to support legacy IP addresses for existing services, new services will need to select from a new IP addressing solution to assist with the IPv4 address pool optimisation.
This transition aims to efficiently manage our IPv4 resources and improve overall network performance. In this guide, we will explain the differences between CGNAT, dynamic and static IP addresses.
✨ CGNAT Dual Stack IPv4 and IPv6 Addresses
A CGNAT IP allows multiple users to share a single public IP address, enabling efficient use of available IP resources and ensuring internet connectivity for a larger number of users. If your modem/router is IPv6 enabled then you will be allocated an IPv6 address, otherwise you will be provided a shared IPv4 address via CGNAT.

⚡ Dynamic IPv4 Address
A Dynamic IPv4 address will allocate a single public IP address to the end user, that will not be shared with other users. This IP will be on a 30 day lease, after which the service will re-authenticate with a new dynamic IPv4 address.

🌎 Static IPv4 Address
A static IPv4 address will allocate a single public IPv4 address to your CPE's WAN port (router/modem), which will not be shared with any other customers, nor will it change. This IPv4 address will remain issued to you unless you submit a request for a new Static IPv4 address to be allocated.

⏸ The Static IP will remain in quarantine for 30 days. If the you decide to switch from a Static IPv4 address to a Dynamic IPv4 address and then back to a Static IPv4 address within the 30 day period then you will be allocated the same static IPv4 address as previously allocated.
