Linux Shared-Hosting Configuration Issue (Løst)

  • We are currently investigating a server configuration issue that is impacting shared-hosting customers on our Linux-based server platform. Customer websites are being served up with an Apache Misdirected Request Error 421. 

    Misdirected Request: The client needs a new connection for this request as the requested host name does not match the Server Name Indication (SNI) in use for this connection

    We are aware of the impact and investigating the issue as a high priority.

    ⚡ Update 17/07/2025 12:30PM AEST:

    We have identified the root cause of the issue impacting website performance.

    A problem was found with a server component designed to enhance website speed and static content caching. We have isolated this component, which has mitigated the original issue that was preventing customer websites from loading correctly.

    Investigations into the root cause and a permanent fix for the failing component are ongoing. In the meantime, some users may experience slower website loading times.

    We will continue to update this post as progress is made and will mark it as resolved once a permanent fix is implemented.

    ✅ Update 17/07/2025 10:50PM AEST:

    Final update on this issue. We have now had confirmation that a security update to Apache web server applied to our shared hosting environment overnight that included fixes for CVEs affecting Apache & NGINX functionality. This update changed the way Apache processes requests from NGINX (caching service mentioned above) causing Apache to now reject proxied web requests without the server name passed through from NGINX. Previously, NGINX did not pass the server name through SNI when establishing a connection with a proxied HTTPS server (Apache).

    Our control panel vendor (PLESK) is fully aware of the issue and have provided a temporary fix to allow us to re-enable NGINX without breaking web requests to customer websites. The PLESK team is now preparing a custom fix for Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 and 18.0.71. Once this fix is available, our systems will automatically update to the latest release.

  • Please be advised we sustained a small Denial of Service (DoS) attempt to our network in the Melbourne datacentre. The attack was targeted at our public-facing DNS infrastructure. This has caused a increased amount of traffic briefly causing some intermittent network interruption to services hosted in our Melbourne Datacentre. 

    During this event, some customers may have received outage notifications about their monitored internet service. Please be advised that between the outage window these alerts were not valid and related to transit issues seen on our infrastructure.

    We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused. We will update you as information becomes available.

    Users may be unable to access Microsoft Teams via any method (Web/Mobile/App). Customers with Voice Services provided by Raines Internet Solutions routed into the Microsoft Teams platform are impacted with inbound calls not being answered.

    Reported impact scenarios include, but may not be limited to, access to the service, messaging, calling, and meetings.

    The desktop app may sign in successfully, though all functionalities may be down and users may see a “We ran into a problem. Reconnecting…” message. Users leveraging the web client may see a message stating “Operation failed with unexpected error.”.

    Current Status:

    Microsoft support have received reports that users are experiencing issues with the Microsoft Teams service. Support teams are analysing service telemetry to help identify the source of the issue and determine our next steps to restoring the service.

    Scope of Impact:

    This issue may potentially affect any user attempting to utilise the Microsoft Teams service.

    Preliminary Root Cause:

    A recent deployment contained a broken connection to an internal storage service, which is causing an issue in which users may be unable to access Microsoft Teams or utilize any functions within the service.

We are investigating the root cause of simultaneous UPS systems failure and seeking advice from DC operators as to what went wrong. All virtual systems that use the storage platform had been automatically paused until more disk space was allocated. Systems were restored to service by the afternoon.     Raines Internet Solutions will be re-locating all server equipment into new rackspace located in at the Melbourne Datacentre. During the planned outage period, connectivity to all shared hosting infrastructure will be intermittently lost while servers are being moved. The scheduled re-location procedure will start from Monday 28th January 2013 at 12:00am AEDST and complete at 2:00am AEDST. We have ensured that during the service period all down-time will be kept to a minimum and networking links are already pre-provisioned in the new rackspace before the re-location commences.
